10 tips for growing great teams. Join me in the coming weeks as we explore these tips

Like growing healthy plants, growing a great team requires the right environment and nourishment. The right environment includes rich soil instead of rocky ground or weedy ground, moist soil instead of dry arid soil, placing the plants in sunlight instead of areas of shade or darkness. The right nourishment also is required which means the soil has the proper nutrients. Drip lines for regular watering also provide nourishment. Placing the plants in a location where they get the sunlight they need to thrive but not too much for healthy growth also supports their nourishment.

Gardening is a great leadership metaphor.  I’ll be taking a Coaching approach to this blog asking powerful questions to help you more deeply understand the “why” of the practices which will help you to develop deeper convictions leading to actions.

Over the next 10 weeks I’ll be sharing 10 practices for growing great teams. We’ll talk about goodness of fit of your employees for their role, hiring practices, approaches to developing your team members, setting clear expectations, being a vulnerable and caring leader, equipping your team with the tools they need, giving them recognition, listening to their opinions, helping them see the organization’s mission more clearly and how their role contributes to it, delivering ongoing feedback, and giving increasing responsibilities so your team members can grow.

These tips are all about creating an environment and providing the nourishment for your team to grow and flourish.
